3D Artist/Rigging Artist Internship (internship to hire) (temporarily unpaid)
About the Role
We’re looking for skilled Rigging Artists to specialize in creating and optimizing fully animated avatars for our AGI model. You’ll focus on building robust rigging systems that enable seamless, expressive animations, ensuring avatars respond dynamically to AI inputs. This role combines artistic flair with technical expertise in a collaborative, remote-friendly environment, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in AI-animated characters.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement advanced rigging setups for 3D avatars, including skeletons, skinning, deformers, and controls for facial expressions, body movements, and complex interactions.
- Collaborate with animators, modelers, and AI engineers to integrate rigs with our AGI model, allowing for real-time, adaptive animations based on user interactions or AI-generated behaviors.
- Optimize rigs for performance across platforms, ensuring smooth animation in virtual environments, simulations, or real-time rendering engines.
- Develop custom tools and scripts to streamline rigging workflows, incorporating AI-assisted automation where applicable.
- Test and iterate on avatar animations to achieve lifelike movements, emotions, and physics-based responses.
- Stay updated on industry trends in rigging, animation software, and AI integration to enhance avatar quality and functionality.
- Participate in virtual team reviews, feedback sessions, and cross-disciplinary projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Animation, Computer Graphics, Fine Arts, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- Proven experience as a Rigging Artist in game development, film, VFX, or interactive media, with a portfolio showcasing rigged and animated characters.
- Expertise in rigging tools and software such as Maya, Blender, Houdini, or Unreal Engine.
- Strong understanding of anatomy, kinematics, and deformation techniques for realistic avatar animation.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, MEL) for automating rigging processes.
- Experience with AI or machine learning integrations in animation is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to work independently in a remote setting.
