Academic Advisor Remote
Summary: The Academic Advisor in the Online Division provides proactive, holistic, and student-centered support to learners enrolled in Carrington College's online programs. This position ensures students receive consistent academic guidance, encouragement, and institutional support from enrollment through program completion. The advisor plays a key role in student retention, engagement, and success. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Academic Advising & Student Success
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned online students regarding academic progression and institutional support services.
- Guide students through understanding program expectations, policies, procedures, and milestones.
- Assist students in resolving challenges that impact academic persistence or performance.
- Foster student accountability and self-advocacy through goal-setting and regular follow-up
2. Student Monitoring & Outreach
- Monitor student academic progress and engagement using institutional data, which may include additional platforms, as well as technology and reporting tools.
- Identify and initiate outreach to at-risk students, developing individualized action plans when needed.
- Maintain consistent and timely communication through phone, email, and virtual meetings.
- Encourage continuous enrollment and help students navigate institutional processes to minimize disruptions to their studies.
3. Coordination & Collaboration
- Partner with admissions, financial aid, instructors, and student services teams to support a coordinated student experience.
- Escalate concerns and collaborate on intervention strategies when academic, financial, or personal barriers arise.
- Lead onboarding and orientation efforts to facilitate smooth student transitions into the online learning environment.
4. Documentation & Recordkeeping
- Maintain accurate and thorough records of all student interactions in the college's student information and advising systems.
- Document key communications, interventions, referrals, and outcomes in compliance with institutional standards.
- Professional Development & Compliance
- Stay informed on institutional policies, accreditation standards, and best practices in academic advising- especially those applicable to online and adult learners.
- Participate in internal training, professional development, and regular team meetings.
- Ensure all advising practices align with FERPA regulations and college policies.

At least 2 years of experience in academic advising, student services, or a related field-preferably in an online or hybrid education setting. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to build rapport with diverse student populations. Technologically proficient, with experience using learning management systems, student information systems, and virtual communication tools. Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritize multiple responsibilities in a virtual environment. Language Skills - Ability to read, analyze and interpret analytical reports on inquiries, enrollments and drops; ability to communicate and/or respond to inquiries or complaints from employees and students with superior written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in group presentations. Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form; ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Access and Outlook; LMS, and Anthology. Experience working with a CRM is preferred.
