Intern, Artists Against Hunger & Poverty

Work from home Full-time role Hiring

Organization Description: WhyHunger funds and supports community solutions to protect the human right to food. In five decades of innovation and evolution, our programs and our grassroots partners in 24 countries have expanded agricultural practices that are better for the planet, helped communities address the root causes of hunger, and ensured access to nutritious food for millions of people when they need it most. As a grassroots support organization, we stand behind the leadership of the people most impacted by hunger and injustice. We prioritize providing resources to support the rights of communities who have been historically excluded from defining and controlling their food systems. We advocate for workers’ rights and champion agroecological food production that unites science and sustainability with Indigenous knowledge and wisdom. Together we can build socially and economically just food systems that nourish all people and the environment. Our founders, musician Harry Chapin and radio DJ Bill Ayres embraced music’s power to unite people, inspire action, and uplift communities when they formed WhyHunger around a kitchen table in 1975. Since then, decades of impactful partnerships across culture have emerged from the belief that nutritious food is a human right. WhyHunger has been joined by musicians, actors, artists, and fans who’ve spoken up about food justice to raise funds and spark action. Visit whyhunger.org to join us and learn more. About the Position: WhyHunger seeks a remote intern, with option to work in-office on a hybrid schedule. Regular duties include researching upcoming tours nationally and internationally, drafting written materials, researching up and coming artists, reading the trades and researching latest trends in the entertainment industry, identifying artist’s connections and interests to a cause (racial justice, food justice, environmentalism, women’s rights, LGBTQ rights, etc), and potential for some cold pitching. Key learnings will be around building experience in prospect researching, learning contact information aggregation, and building a strategic understanding of cross-marketing opportunities for a musician or celebrity with a cause.
