[Remote] Accounts Payable Specialist

StevenDouglas is seeking an Accounts Payable Specialist who will be responsible for processing vendor invoices and employee expense reimbursements while ensuring compliance with company policies. This remote role requires the candidate to live within one hour of Austin, Texas, and involves maintaining vendor records, reconciling accounts, and supporting the month-end close process.
Responsibilities
- Review, verify, and process vendor bills for payment
- Match bills to purchase orders and receiving documentation
- Ensure bills are properly coded and approved in accordance with company policies
- Resolve invoice discrepancies and payment issues with vendors and internal departments
- Establish and maintain vendor records
- Collect and maintain required vendor documentation, including W-9 forms
- Respond to vendor inquiries and resolve account discrepancies
- Reconcile vendor statements and investigate outstanding balances
- Review employee expense reports for compliance with company travel and expense policies
- Process approved reimbursements in a timely manner
- Communicate with employees regarding missing documentation or policy exceptions
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities
- Prepare AP aging reports and other financial reports as requested
- Support internal and external audits by providing documentation
- Maintain organized electronic and physical AP records
- Ensure compliance with company policies and accounting procedures
- Identify opportunities to improve AP processes and efficiency
- Assist with special projects and other accounting duties as assigned
Skills
- 5+ years of experience in accounting
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and financial systems
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite or similar) preferred
