Sr. UI/UX Designer for games (remote)

Nerd Ninjas is a fully remote, fast‑moving, multidisciplinary team of creative professionals who work hard and play hard. We’re looking for an experienced UX Designer to help us deliver compelling, engaging experiences for a successful, high‑visibility game IP. You’ll collaborate closely with game design, art, product, and engineering teams to represent the best interests of a broad player base through the design of intuitive, playful, and usable game interfaces. As a member of the UX team, you will partner closely with UX leads to support a variety of initiatives across the product. A strong drive to help the team proactively identify and resolve potential player facing issues is required, as is the ability to deliver simple, visually appealing UI mocks that are implementation ready. We’re looking for an experienced Sr. UI/UX Designer to help craft seamless and engaging user experiences, ensuring our players enjoy intuitive and rewarding interactions with our games. Key Responsibilities

  • Drive the UX design process from concept to implementation, delivering exceptional player experiences.
  • Design intuitive UI and interaction systems that align with the game’s core mechanics and player experience goals.
  • Partner with cross‑functional teams including game designers, artists, and engineers, to seamlessly integrate UX solutions into gameplay and overall design.
  • Collaborate with IP partners to ensure designs align with brand guidelines and enhance the authenticity of the player experience.
  • Develop wireframes, prototypes, and detailed design documentation to clearly communicate interaction flows and design concepts.
  • Advocate for the player perspective throughout the development process, ensuring usability and player engagement are top priorities.
  • Mentor and support UI/UX designers by sharing best practices, fostering an inclusive environment, and guiding design principles and methodologies.
  • Stay current with the latest UI/UX gaming trends, tools, and technologies and implement innovative solutions where applicable.
  • Champion a user‑centered design approach ensuring player engagement and satisfaction are at the core of all decisions.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in UI/UX design for video games or interactive media, with a portfolio of shipped titles demonstrating user‑centered design solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate design rationale effectively and collaborate across diverse teams.
  • Experience designing for mobile applications is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with wireframing, prototyping, and user testing methodologies in a game development environment.
  • The portfolio must demonstrate the ability to create a clean, user‑friendly UI that is also visually delightful.
  • Ability to create clean, minimalistic design aesthetics and implement UI art, bridging design and functionality.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and a passion for creating engaging, intuitive player experiences.
  • Strong understanding of game design principles and how UX integrates into gameplay mechanics and narrative flow.
  • A creative mindset with the ability to think outside the box and deliver innovative UX solutions that delight and inspire users.
  • Familiarity with game engines such as Unity (preferred), Unreal Engine, or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in UX design tools such as Figma (preferred).
  • Must be a US or Canadian resident (unfortunately, visa sponsorships are not available; applicants outside North America will not be considered).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with mobile and live‑service games.
  • Experience conducting and participating in user research, playtesting, and feedback sessions to iterate on and improve designs.
  • Experience with PC games.
  • Experience with UI/UX design for AR/VR/MR is a plus.
  • Able to analyze, adapt and take a data‑driven approach to live analytics.
  • Experience with spatial design and prototyping in engine, particularly for UI (e.g. Unity, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of interaction design, accessibility, and human‑computer interaction principles, with a focus on delivering inclusive player experiences.
