We are seeking an experienced accounting professional to join our finance leadership team in a high-impact role with significant visibility across the organization. Position Overview Farmers Life Insurance Company is seeking a Stat Accountant, Manager to support and help lead the company’s accounting and financial reporting functions, with a primary focus on statutory accounting, Blue Book reporting, annuity operations, and reinsurance accounting. This position is ideal for a candidate with strong insurance accounting experience who is comfortable operating in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment and enjoys taking ownership of complex reporting and operational processes. The role will work closely with senior leadership and external partners on financial reporting, reinsurance activity, audits, and regulatory compliance matters. The ideal candidate will have direct experience with life insurance and annuity accounting, statutory financial reporting, Blue Book preparation, and reinsurance structures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing the company’s statutory accounting and financial reporting processes
  • Prepare and review statutory financial statements and related regulatory filings
  • Support annual and quarterly Blue Book reporting and related schedules
  • Maintain and analyze statutory reserves, annuity balances, premiums, and policyholder liabilities
  • Oversee accounting and reporting for ceded and assumed reinsurance transactions
  • Review and reconcile reinsurance settlement statements and related reporting activity
  • Ensure compliance with NAIC statutory accounting principles and regulatory requirements
  • Assist with preparation of Schedule S and other statutory reporting schedules
  • Support internal and external audits, examinations, and regulatory inquiries
  • Collaborate with actuarial, finance, operations, and external partners on reporting and analysis
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency
  • Assist with development and maintenance of accounting policies, procedures, and controls
  • Provide mentorship and leadership within the accounting team as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 5+ years of insurance accounting experience, preferably within life insurance or annuities
  • Strong knowledge of statutory accounting principles (SAP) and NAIC reporting requirements
  • Experience with Blue Book reporting and statutory filings
  • Reinsurance accounting experience strongly preferred
  • CPA designation preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with insurance accounting systems preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
