[Remote] Hardlines Business Development Manager

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. X4 Engineering is a privately owned, family-run Certification Body currently hiring for a high-caliber Business Development Manager (BDM) – Hardlines to drive commercial growth across North America. In this role, you will be responsible for expanding market share by selling a comprehensive suite of Testing, Inspection, and Certification (TIC) services to manufacturers, brands, importers, and retailers.

Responsibilities

  • New Business Acquisition: Identify, prospect, and close new sales opportunities with major brands, retailers, and importers to drive revenue growth for our certification body
  • Consultative Technical Sales: Evaluate prospect supply chains and compliance gaps to pitch tailored solutions spanning laboratory testing, product inspections, factory audits, and certification programs
  • Retailer & Vendor Program Development: Secure and develop customized retailer testing protocols and vendor compliance programs for major retail accounts, positioning our CB as their preferred partner
  • Market & Regulatory Advocacy: Act as a subject matter expert on market access requirements, helping clients navigate complex regulatory landscapes while demonstrating the value of our trusted mark/certification

Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of direct sales or business development experience in Hardlines Commercially focused positions
  • Strong technical familiarity and commercial experience across: Furniture (domestic, commercial, outdoor, juvenile), Toys and juvenile products, Household items and general merchandise, Electrical and electronic consumer products, Food contact materials (kitchenware, tableware, food packaging)
  • Solid working knowledge of CPSC and CPSIA requirements, FDA food contact regulations, and UL / FCC safety and compliance standards
  • Practical understanding of California Proposition 65, state-specific flammability requirements, and localized consumer product rules
  • Deep familiarity with ASTM industry standards and Canadian regulations, including Health Canada mandates and the CCPSA
